Baltimore Harbor Environmental Education Program
Students investigate environmental issues and trends on board the Snow Goose. They study the dynamic relationship between the Port of Baltimore and the Patapsco River.
Merrill Environmental Education Program
This program makes use of an exceptional location between the shores of the Bay, the woods of Bay Ridge, the tidal marsh of Black Walnut Creek, and the local fields of tall native grasses. While experiencing the natural surroundings, students survey the flora and fauna that make up an ecosystem's biodiversity.
Port Isobel Environmental Education Program (Staff)
This program inspired our staff to facilitate and lead restoration projects at our school. Teachers learned about the Chesapeake Bay Watershed and how their actions directly impact it.

Trex Recycling Challenge Partnership
Hollifield students participated in the Trex Recycling Challenge, along with more than 580 schools nationwide, to recycle as much plastic film as possible before Earth Day. Our hard work paid off with 1,971 pounds of plastic film recycled! That’s 2.6 pounds per student at Hollifield. The plastic we collected was converted into a beautiful Trex bench instead of being dumped in a landfill. Great job Hollifield Students!!
Thanks to Sophia Cangialosi who brought the program to HSES. Sophia’s Gold Award Project changed the way we recycle our plastic. In the 5 month competition, Sophia collected the plastic weekly, created a Valentine’s Day grade level challenge, and wrote announcements that encouraged us to recycle our plastic. The Earth Force Team collected and weighed the plastic each week. Great teamwork! Hollifield won first place in the state of Maryland. This was due to the partnership between the Earth Force Team and Sophia! We have changed our recycling habits! The Trex Recycling Challenge was a huge success!
